Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is widely used for cavity prevention. It makes the tooth enamel harder and less porous giving it a fighting chance against acid and bacteria.
Fluoride treatments in dental offices can come in different forms - foam, gel, liquid, and varnish - and different flavours too. We apply it onto your clean teeth at the end of your visit.
Depending on which one you're given, you may have to wait a short while after it's applied before you can eat or drink.
Fluoride varnish treatments can be used to reduce tooth sensitivity. There are also alternative professional options used in dental care, specifically made for desensitizing teeth. Both options are available.
For homecare, you have other options to help with sensitivity so you can enjoy your favorite foods and drinks without discomfort. You can find a selection of toothpastes and mouthwashes for sensitive teeth anywhere that sells oral care products.
